Work Location: Onsite, Palmer, MA Key Responsibilities <ul><li>Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters.</li><li>Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&amp;T).</li><li>Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.</li><li>Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.</li><li>Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into positions.</li><li>Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.</li><li>Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.</li><li>Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.</li><li>Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.</li><li>Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.</li><li>Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.</li><li>Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.</li><li>Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Critical Competencies for Success <ul><li>High School diploma or GED</li><li>Functional and Technical Skills applicable to the operation of CNC machinery.</li><li>1-3 years working with CNC machinery and/or the completion of a CNC education program.</li></ul>What IMI Can Offer You At IMI, one of our top priorities is to create an inclusive culture of health. Role Overview PI (Physik Instrumente), LP is the world leader in high precision positioning systems: Nano Positioning, Micro Positioning, Precision Motion and Automation Systems. Our product lines include piezoelectric-based nano positioners, motorized stepper and servo stages, and linear motor stages. Our customers are the leading OEM's and researchers in high tech fields such as semiconductor, photonics, biomedical, aerospace, astronomy, metrology, scientific instrumentation, and scientific research in microscopy and beam lines. PI has an immediate opening for an experienced full-time CNC Machinist Setup/Operator in our world-class machining and grinding facility. This position involves reading blueprints, programming in MasterCAM, executing operations per routings, setting up and operating machines that may include Haas CNC Mills and Lathes and manual equipment or processes at a higher challenging level of precision machining work. This position is based in Hopkinton, MA. The facility will be moving to Shrewsbury, MA in mid-2025. What You Will Do: <ul><li>Ability to setup and run CNC mills and lathes (HAAS preferred).</li><li>Apprentice or technical schooling for precision machine shop experience (CNC or Manual).</li><li>Ability to read engineering drawings (blueprint reading).</li><li>Understanding of GD&amp;T (geometric dimensioning &amp; tolerancing).</li><li>Knowledge of G&amp;M codes used in CNC programming process.</li><li>Ability to make adjustments with MDI at CNC machine tool control.</li><li>Ability to properly use common inspection equipment.</li><li>Employment is dependent on the results of an initial drug test, background check, and motor vehicle report (if applicable to the position).</li><li>Daily work responsibilities will include running parts on Haas CNC mills and lathes including 4 and 4 axis milling and lathe live tooling.</li><li>Quantity is from single piece prototypes to low volume production. </li><li>Candidate is also responsible for performing in-process and final inspection on those parts and verifying they meet all print tolerances and specifications.</li><li>Ability to operate independently and go from print to part is a must.</li><li>Prefer individual with experience in precision machining using Haas CNC mills and lathes.
