The Story Behind hireCNC

hireCNC was founded in February 2023 by Jon House, Rob House, and Alison House — former owners and operators of In-House Solutions, a Mastercam reseller founded in 1988 that has worked with thousands of machine shops across Canada for more than 35 years.

Through In-House Solutions, the team worked closely with over 3,000 machine shop customers, helping them implement CNC software solutions and improve their manufacturing operations. Over time, one problem kept coming up again and again.

Machine shops were struggling to hire skilled CNC machinists.

The founders experienced this challenge firsthand while hiring CNC programmers and machinists at their own company. And they heard the same frustration repeatedly from customers across the machining industry:

"We can’t find anyone."

Traditional job boards often generated hundreds of applicants, but only a small percentage have real machining experience. Hiring managers were left sorting through large volumes of irrelevant resumes while critical roles remained unfilled.

At the same time, skilled machinists often struggled to find opportunities with shops that truly valued their skills.

Recognizing this gap, the founders began exploring specialized job boards and niche recruiting models — platforms designed to serve a specific industry rather than everyone at once.

That insight led to the creation of hireCNC.

Today, hireCNC helps machine shops across North America connect with CNC machinists, programmers, and manufacturing professionals through targeted job postings and recruiting services built specifically for the machining industry.

The founders also previously built OCTOPUZ, an offline robot programming software platform used in robotic welding and fabrication environments, which was acquired by ESAB in 2021. In March 2026, In-House Solutions was acquired by Mastercam and Sandvik, further strengthening the team’s deep connection to the manufacturing sector.
