You will be an integral part of a successful team responsible for producing products and machined components in military, aerospace, oil/gas, and other applications. This position is responsible for setting up and operating various types and sizes of production machine tools in the machining of forgings or stock to customer requirements and specifications using a variety of cutting tools. The position must be able to use hand tools, measuring instruments, and gauges to ensure proper setups and machining operations. Must also be capable of reading and understanding the Machine NC Code. Responsibilities: <ul><li>Receives machining instructions (MI's), dimensional drawings, same combination tool, 1st piece, inspection sheets, permanent serial cards, test rg cards, serial sheets, load sheets and load summary sheets, setup charts, manufacturing instruction sheets, instructions from department supervision indicating such info as part and operation number is to be performed.</li><li>Sets up production machine units of various types and sizes by inserting necessary tooling, fixtures, etc., into the machine by referring to setup charts, manufacturing instruction sheets, and/or from experience and supervisor guidance at times.</li><li>Reads and interprets dimensions drawings, sketches, tool setup charts, and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operations and setups. Uses TSC and operational drawings to determine required dimensions, travels, and tolerance to be maintained.</li><li>Selects, inserts, and fastens necessary tooling such as turning, drilling, boring, facing, grooving tools, etc. to hex and turret tool posts required for the various machining operations. Uses various hand tools such as crescent, open end, spanner, allen wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, mallets, and others in performing setups.</li><li>Shovel chips and run crane as necessary.</li><li>Operates various types of production machine units in the machining of forgings made from various types of metal such as carbon, stainless steel, chrome-nickel, Inconel, titanium, etc. Machines forging to close tolerance, e.g., +/-.001, and may be required to polish machined surfaces using proper abrasive to obtain required finishes conforming to customer specifications. Must keep control of chip identity along with the stock expeditor.</li><li>Loads and unloads pieces, and hitches for crane operator. Sets feeds and speeds on the machine from manufacturing instruction sheets, from instructions of supervisor, or from experience to conform with sound machining practices. Applies coolant lubricant and changes worn or damaged tools as required. CNC machines also use TSC but must also set offsets. Manual uses touch-off to attain sizes required. Resets offsets if a change of tooling (bar, etc.) is done or to fine-tune for free cutting and finishes required. Has working knowledge of machine NC language.</li><li>Uses precision or standard measuring devices such as scales inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, profile meters, etc. to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications.</li><li>Exercises care in handling material before or after the machining operation. Records necessary information to log sheet denoting part, serial, heat code numbers, critical dimension, etc. following established practices. Is responsible for the operator certification stamp assigned to him and it must be entered on the permanent serial card (pink card).</li><li>Capable of performing work as described in the IAMAW labor agreement for a production machine operator trainee.</li></ul> This will be a 2nd shift schedule. Monday-Friday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Training will be on the 1st shift. Prefer 5-7 years applied trades training, such as use of blueprints, CNC equipment, G &amp; M code, manual machining etc. Must also be able to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions. MAJOR TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Requires demonstrated skill and qualifications as a CNC Technician I. Must have developed proficiency in the operation of the 2 Axis Lathe. Set-up, adjust, write and edit program and operate 2 CNC Lathes to produce a wide variety of tooling to close and/or exacting tolerances and finish requirements. <ol><li> Includes a requirement to plan the work, determine cutting sequences, develop holding and chucking fixtures, establish feeds, speeds and cut depths and determine appropriate cutting tool(s) using the part print, sketches or verbal description of the part to be made.</li><li> Requires the calculation of dimensional relationships, the determination of cut lengths, depth, etc. and entry of data to machine controller. Data input involves material type, feeds, speeds, rough part dimensions, finished part dimensions, tools selected, cutting depth, etc.</li><li> Work is performed to close tolerances. All work requires "truing" part in holding chuck in order to assure consistency of dimensions and concentricity of surfaces.</li><li> Majority of work, but not exclusively, is non-repetitive in nature involving single parts made to specific dimensions and/or configuration. Multiple parts may be produced without re-programming the machine.</li></ol> Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to position part, check dimensions during machining operation and check final part dimensions such as length, internal and external diameters and groove or step position. Work involves the determination of locations and machining in the X, and Y axis, in addition to the turning, drilling, facing, taper, and boring operations similar to the 2 Axis CNC Lathe. Complexity of work performed is related to the skill of the operator and the capability of the machine. Requires a knowledge of machining characteristics of a variety of materials, in both hardened and non-hardened states, and exotic materials i.e. carbide, in order to determine the appropriate speeds, feeds and tools to produce parts to specification. Devise and fabricate "soft" jaws for non-barstock parts, partially finished parts and parts of unusual outside configuration, or to allow the use of cutting tools within the confined space allowed. Select appropriate cutting tool (i.e. end mill, drill, boring bar, turning tool, etc) , tool size and configuration to perform the required operations. If tool is not already mounted in one of the 16 machine stations, select from available supply and position in tool holder. May require sharpening of "non-insert" tools such as drills and mills. Responsible for the cleanliness, housekeeping and preventive maintenance of tools (grease and oil), equipment, benches and surrounding work area. Train and assist CNC I operators in the operation of equipment and the resolution of problems and/or unusual cutting or processing requirements, based on daily job assignments. This position is not responsible for the evaluation and job assignments of an employee, but is expected to contribute feedback where warranted. Occasionally runs multiple numbers of machines. May contact vendors to determine recommended spare parts, cutting tools, etc. Includes the testing of new products and contact with machine builders. Occupation includes a requirement to follow Environmental Health &amp; Safety procedures. Other duties as assigned by supervisor for additional experience and/or training or refinement skills or in preparation for advancement. The Lead CNC HBM Machinist - Night Shift will supervise the night shift machinist while ensuring adherence to proper schedule and priorities with primary responsibility to drive production and quality. This role may also perform a variety of finish machining practices involved with drilling, threading (tap &amp; thread mill), boring, etc, while maintaining close tolerances on a wide variety of components from various industries. The ideal candidate needs to be fluent with Fanuc Controls (Tosnuc) including A+ experience with cogsdill contouring heads and the use of right-angle heads. The candidate must be able to read and interpret drawings, work instructions, read and understand programs, all to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
