SUMMARY Sets up and operates all machinery in the machine shop including lathe, mill, drill press, saws, horizontal boring, to perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, boring, cutting, broaching, and reaming metal work pieces. Is competent with 5S and maintains a safe work area. Completes all work in a safe manner with quality and productivity in mind by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES include the following. Performs other duties as required. <ul><li>Excellent attendance/reliability and willingness to work overtime when necessary, according to the contract guidelines.</li><li>Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).</li><li>Follows all company safety guidelines and requirements.</li><li>Keep the work area clean, work in a safe manner and always comply with plant safety rules and regulations.</li><li>Responsible for the quality of parts you produce and responsible for reporting any nonconforming parts to Supervisor immediately.</li><li>Maintains a good working relationship with his/her fellow associates and supervisor and keeps his/her supervisor advised of all situations within the work area.</li><li>Report any machine, tooling, fixture problems to Supervisor immediately.</li><li>Recommend proposals for improving products, processes, systems, productivity and work environment (Continuous Improvement Process).</li><li>Responsible for following lockout/tagout procedure.</li><li>Participate in required OSHA training and other safety training as required.</li><li>Perform set up requirements, locate parts correctly, adjust and operate machines in correct sequence to perform precision machining operations.</li><li>Ability to use precision measuring equipment and knowledge of machine programs. Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines. Responsible for making recommendations on required tooling.</li><li>Ability to program machines and modify existing programs to meet the requirements of processes. Program and ability to machine tight tolerance parts. Proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, deburring and 100% inspection of quality parts for conformance to specifications.</li><li>Studies machining instructions, sample parts, blueprint drawings, process sheet, manuals, specifications, layout on workpiece to determine dimensions, tolerances, machining required, sequence of operation, tooling, feed, and speed rate. </li><li>The ability to read blueprint is required.</li><li>Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.</li><li>Verifies dimensions of machined workpiece using micrometers, telescoping gauges, vernier calipers, and dial indicators.</li><li>Lays out reference lines and machining locations on workpiece, according to blueprints. Operates the bench grinder to sharpen tools.</li><li>Set up saws as required. Can identify raw materials properly and use appropriate measuring tools when required.</li><li>Saw material as required according to specifications using the most efficient means.</li><li>Operates manufacturing computer systems in relation to timecard and shop order data entry. Performs daily maintenance and troubleshoots machines to ensure proper performance.</li><li>Follows established procedures for accurate inventory control and assists with establishing new procedures.</li><li>Performs work within labor standards for job assignments.</li><li>Experienced with CNC probing and traditional setup methods preferred.</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. As the Machining Centre Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of machining equipment to produce parts that will stand up to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. The successful candidate will have experience working with measurement tools, such as micrometers and calipers, to ensure machined parts are within the required dimensions and tolerances. When not operating machinery, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the machinery, ensuring all fluids are topped up and clean.
