MSC is seeking a Manual Cutter / Grinder to join its Grind Shop team in Chicopee, Massachusetts. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys precision work, inspection, blueprint reading, and hands-on manufacturing while developing specialized skills in cutting tool reconditioning and precision grinding.

Cutting tools are critical to machining performance and part quality. This role supports MSC's tool reconditioning operations by restoring and manufacturing cutting tools to precise specifications, helping customers maximize tool life and maintain machining efficiency.

Successful candidates will receive extensive hands-on training while learning specialized grinding and inspection processes.

The Work You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

• Regrind, recondition, and manufacture cutting tools according to SOPs, work instructions, and print specifications
• Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and sample parts
• Determine dimensions, tolerances, setup requirements, and operation sequences
• Set up grinding equipment and verify proper machine guarding before operation
• Grind tools within specified print tolerances
• Monitor machine operation and adjust controls as necessary
• Inspect finished tools using precision measuring instruments
• Complete inspection reports and document results accurately
• Return tooling to designated locations after completion
• Maintain a clean, organized work area using 5S principles
• Assist with training and support of other team members when needed
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and special projects

Machines, Equipment & Inspection Tools

• Industrial precision grinding equipment
• Manual grinding machinery
• Precision measuring instruments
• Calipers
• Micrometers
• Blueprint and print documentation
• Inspection reporting systems

What We're Looking For

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic math skills
• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Ability to inspect parts and tools to print specifications
• Ability to accurately document inspection results
• Ability to read and follow work instructions
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment
• Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to set up and operate machine tools
• Reliable, safety-minded, and team-oriented

Preferred

• Training or education related to blueprint reading
• Experience with industrial precision grinding equipment
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools
• Previous manufacturing, machining, tool room, or grinding experience
• Experience training or mentoring others
