Production parts are primarily wheels and wheel components manufactured from aluminum.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>Study blueprints, layouts or charts to visualize work and determine materials needed, sequence of operations, dimensions and tooling instructions.</li><li>Write and edit programs as necessary based on drawings.</li><li>Selects cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics, or written specifications.&nbsp;</li><li>Positions, secures and aligns cutting tools in tool holders on machine, using hand tools, and verifies their position with measuring instruments.</li><li>Moves controls to set cutting speeds, depths of cut and feed rates and to position tool in relation to workplace.</li><li>Run machine through the cycle, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearance and tolerances.&nbsp;</li><li>Observes operation and stops machine to inspect finished parts and verify conformance with specifications of first run, using measuring instruments.</li></ul>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:<ul><li>Ability to set-up and operate CNC machines with Okuma, HAAS, and Fanuc controls.</li><li>Able to write and edit CNC programs and to correct or improve job performance.</li><li>Able to understand complex mechanical drawings and tolerances.</li><li>Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobs.</li><li>Ability to institute process and procedural improvements in a machine shop environment.</li><li>Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.</li></ul>EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:<ul><li>High School diploma</li><li>Possess at least 5 to 8 years’ experience in a machine shop environment</li></ul>At AST, we are committed to providing the ideal climate for personal and professional development for all of our team members. Then, let’s talk!What You’ll Do<ul><li>Use Solidworks to develop CAD drawings for fixturing, work-holding, and gaging, continuously improving upon existing processes and updating legacy drawings accordingly</li><li>Develop critical dimension sheets and inspection plans for Production to use on the manufacturing floor</li><li>Support the development, evaluation, and review of manufacturing plans and set-up sheets for the manufacturing process</li><li>Support engineering documentation necessary for new project kick-offs, including standard operating procedures, drawing reviews, capacity analysis, material envelope determination, and vendor capability assessments</li><li>Define and maintain manufacturing processes by studying customer blueprints and testing manufacturing methods, tooling, and equipment</li><li>Support the production floor by troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions to keep machines running conforming parts</li><li>Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities in machining processes by leveraging new cutting and automation tools with external vendors</li><li>Evaluate existing machining processes to identify opportunities to improve throughput, decrease change-over times, and enhance operator performance</li><li>Work with Quality Engineering to detect, evaluate, and eliminate quality issues, reducing the cost of manufacturing for the company</li><li>Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for fixturing and process requirements</li><li>Coordinate and facilitate continuous improvement/kaizen events, increasing participation among staff in cost improvement programs</li></ul>What We Are Looking For<ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field from a four-year college or university</li><li>Experience with Solidworks; certification is highly preferred or an ability to obtain a certification within 90 days of hire</li><li>Proficient understanding of GD&amp;T and ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire</li><li>Minimum of 2 years related experience in a manufacturing environment</li><li>Prior CNC Machining Experience Preferred</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li></ul>We believe the only way our company can grow is when we nurture the growth of our employees.
