Laitram Machine Shop is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist 3 to join our Lathe Team in New Orleans, Louisiana. This position plays a key role in supporting production through CNC machine setups, process optimization, quality control, and mentorship of fellow machinists. What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Perform repeatable setups across a variety of CNC lathes and machining equipment
  • Load stock into workholding devices and monitor machining operations
  • Run production jobs while maintaining quality and efficiency standards
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment to verify conformance to print specifications
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, offsets, and workholding as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements
  • Review machining processes and assist in troubleshooting manufacturing challenges
  • Complete production reporting and shop documentation accurately
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Support and mentor less experienced machinists to help develop team capabilities
  • Collaborate with programmers, quality personnel, and manufacturing leadership to improve processes

Machines, Controls & Inspection Equipment

You'll regularly work with:

  • CNC Lathes
  • CNC Milling Equipment
  • Precision Measuring Equipment
  • Micrometers
  • Calipers
  • Gauges
  • Manual and Automated Inspection Systems
  • CAM Software (preferred experience)

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3–5 years of CNC machining setup experience
  • Experience setting up multiple types of CNC equipment
  • Strong blueprint reading skills
  • Knowledge of G-Code and M-Code programming fundamentals
  • Experience using precision inspection tools
  • Understanding of GD&T principles
  • Strong shop math skills including geometry, metric conversions, and cutting calculations
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with manual or automated CMM systems
  • Experience with CAM software
  • Experience with FDM 3D printing
  • Leadership or team mentoring experience
  • Programming experience in a CNC machining environment
