CNC Technician - 1st shift JOB OBJECTIVE/ SUMMARY: CNC Technician - also referred to as Computer-Controlled Machine Tool Technician. Oversee shift output of operations to produce product that meets company quality specifications while following standard operating procedures to achieve production quotas. During the machining process, the technician constantly monitors the CNC control module, checking to see if any problems exist and to ensure that the machine tools run in a steady, continuous manor. This is a 24-hour operation. Position substrate in vises or fixtures on a CNC machine, lathe, milling machine, or other. Detect problems by listening for specific sounds, a dull cutting tool or excessive vibration. Must maintain equipment, supplies and safety standards. Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following: <ul><li>Set-up and navigate computer numerical control (CNC) machine(s).</li><li>Perform in-process inspection of finished parts, detect malfunctions and utilize appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.</li><li>Pack parts into various containers as specified by a standard.</li><li>Follow written instructions and standardized work.</li><li>Perform required Plex functions including: creation/printing of tags, production recording etc.</li><li>Adhere to and maintain 5S and LEAN Manufacturing standards.</li><li>Train and mentor CNC Technician 1's on manufacturing and machining skills as required.</li><li>Communicate appropriately to avoid unplanned downtime, inform other shifts of problems, trends, etc. Inform Leader of maintenance needs.</li><li>Follow all associated documentation as directed by the Engineer and Production Leader.</li><li>Read and interpret GD T prints and check fixtures.</li><li>Make routine part dimensional adjustments to ensure product quality </li><li>Maintain Process Change Log for adjustments.</li><li>Interpret SPC chart data and make adjustments per SPC reaction plan.</li><li>Perform daily process monitoring.</li><li>Follow setup procedure and documentation for fixtures and tooling.</li><li>Perform CNC fixture change overs </li><li>Pre-stage tooling and fixtures required for changeover.</li><li>Preset spare cutting tools</li><li>Achieve 1st piece that meets all quality requirements. </li><li>Participate in troubleshooting and improvement activities.</li><li>Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures.</li><li>Ensure proper communication between shifts to maintain process stability.</li><li>Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the Leader.</li><li>Complete machine specified Tech 1 TPM </li><li>Ensure fixtures and tooling returned to storage after changeovers meet the cleanliness standard.</li><li>Inspect machine fixtures and perform basic maintenance and cleaning.</li><li>Support Maintenance in breakdown situations</li></ul>Requirements Preferred Education and Experience: <ul><li>High School Diploma or GED</li><li>CNC machining training through school, trade school, or equivalent OJT</li><li>2-3 years experience as a CNC machinist, setup technician, or related trade</li><li>CNC set-up experience preferred</li><li>Experience in quality and production machining of aluminum preferred</li><li>Proven independent thinking with attention to detail</li><li>Proven listening and training skills</li><li>Ability to translate technical activities to non-technical personnel</li></ul>
