π About Semco Carbon
Semco Carbon has been machining custom graphite and carbon composite components since 1971, running its operation from a 45,000-square-foot facility in Lorain, Ohio, about 25 miles west of Cleveland. More than five decades in business means a deep bench of process knowledge most shops never develop β the company has machined parts ranging from button-sized components up to pieces the size of a pickup truck, working with raw graphite blocks in excess of two tons down to small precision pieces, often producing over five tons of saw and mill turnings in a typical production week.
A sizable share of that work supports precious metals processing, where Semco machines ingot molds to the exacting standards set by the London Bullion Market Association β work that has helped shape billions of dollars worth of gold and silver. The rest of the shop's business spans diamond tool manufacturing, electroplating, heat treatment, induction furnaces, metal casting, and solar/crystal applications, giving the team more variety than most machine shops see.
Semco is ISO 9001:2015 certified and runs on a data-capturing ERP system alongside Solidworks and MasterCam for CAD/CAM work. A deliberately low $250 minimum order means the shop regularly takes on prototype and repair work alongside its production runs, rather than only chasing large batch jobs.
π Why you'll like working here
This isn't a shop running the same part over and over. One week you might be roughing a two-ton graphite block, the next machining a precision ingot mold held to LBMA tolerances, or turning out a batch of button-sized components β the variety in part size and material keeps the work genuinely interesting. Semco pairs that variety with modern tools: Solidworks and MasterCam for programming, a data-capturing ERP system for tracking jobs through the shop, and 4th-axis milling and turning capability that lets experienced machinists do real programming and setup work, not just load parts. With more than 50 years in business and a reputation built on precision work for high-stakes customers β precious metals refiners among them β this is a stable, established shop that still has room for someone who wants to own their own setups and contribute to how jobs get machined.
βοΈ What you'll be working on
Graphite and carbon composite components across a wide size range β from small, button-sized parts to blocks over two tons β using CNC vertical and horizontal 4th-axis milling, grinding, and turning centers. Expect setup and programming work using Solidworks and MasterCam, precision machining for demanding applications like precious-metals ingot molds, and production runs alongside one-off prototype and repair jobs for diamond tool, electroplating, heat treatment, induction furnace, metal casting, and solar/crystal customers.
