
CNC Machinist - Engineering Lab
Summary
This position is a non-manufacturing environment and is located within the Engineering Lab as part of the Product Engineering group. We’re seeking a highly versatile machinist who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is eager to take ownership of their work.
This role offers the opportunity to help shape machining processes, contribute to problem-solving meetings, and grow technical expertise across a variety of equipment.
The candidate will be responsible to machine prototype components for gearboxes and motors requiring the setup, programming, and operation of both CNC (Sharp & Haas) and manual machines to produce precision components, including gears and prototype tooling. Familiarity with lathe operations is essential, and there is opportunity to expand skills on grinders and other machines.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of machining tasks from start to finish, including planning, setup, and execution.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine design and build requirements.
- Manufacture, assemble, and maintain complex tools, dies, and fixtures for prototype builds and lab testing.
- Participate in engineering problem-solving meetings to provide input and feedback on machining-related challenges.
- Set up and operate CNC mills.
- Hob and inspect gears/pinions to exacting tolerances using proper tooling and measurement equipment.
- Create and modify CNC programs using G-code and FeatureCAM software.
- Develop and refine machining processes, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and support team priorities.
- Conduct in-process inspections and make adjustments to ensure part accuracy and quality.
- Maintain machines and tooling in good working condition; perform routine maintenance.
- Keep a clean and organized workspace in accordance with safety and 5S standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as a CNC Machinist.
- Proficient in CNC programming and CAM software.
- Familiarity with basic lathe operations required
- Experience with grinders and drill presses a plus.
- Strong knowledge of tool making and gear cutting methods.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and troubleshoot machining issues.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and commitment to quality.
- English language proficiency required.
