About Nidec

Nidec is a global technology manufacturer supporting a wide range of industrial and electromechanical applications. The Hoffman Estates, IL facility houses a Product Engineering Lab where machining directly supports design validation, prototyping, and process development for motors and gearbox assemblies.

Unlike a traditional production shop, machining at Nidec’s engineering lab is hands-on, collaborative, and highly technical. Machinists work closely with engineers to build prototype components, develop machining strategies, and solve real-world manufacturing challenges — often from concept through final validation.

This environment is well-suited for machinists who enjoy variety, ownership of their work, and problem-solving, rather than repetitive production cycles.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

Machinists at Nidec work on:

  • Part Types: Prototype gears, pinions, motor and gearbox components, tooling, and fixtures
  • Production Style: Engineering lab work, prototypes, one-offs, and short-run development parts
  • Typical Tolerances: Tight-tolerance precision components
  • Programming & Setup: Setup-to-finish ownership, G-code programming, CAM exposure
  • Materials Machined: Steel, aluminum, and other materials used in motor and gearbox systems

Machinists are involved early in the process and regularly contribute feedback to engineering teams.
