This role exists to support increased production demand, new customer programs, and ongoing expansion of complex machining capabilities across multi-axis CNC platforms.
At Athena Manufacturing, CNC Programmers play a critical role in turning engineering drawings into highly efficient, production-ready machining strategies that support aerospace, commercial, and government programs.
The Work You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Create CNC programs from customer drawings using CAD/CAM software
- Develop optimized toolpaths for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers and dual-spindle / mill-turn machines
- Troubleshoot and refine programs with CNC operators to improve cycle time and part quality
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies to optimize performance
- Design jigs, fixtures, and workholding solutions to support production efficiency
- Coordinate fixture fabrication with internal machine shop teams
- Create detailed setup documentation for production teams
- Support prototype and production machining when required
- Assist estimating and engineering teams with manufacturability input for new projects
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across machining operations

What We’re Looking For
Required
- 5–10 years of CNC machining or programming experience
- Strong CAD/CAM programming skills (Mastercam, hyperMILL, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience with multi-axis machining (3, 4, and/or 5-axis)
- Strong understanding of setups, tooling, offsets, and machining strategies
- Experience in a production manufacturing environment
Preferred
- Experience with mill-turn or dual-spindle machining
- Exposure to Siemens, Mazatrol, Okuma, or Fanuc controls
- Fixture or tooling design experience
- Background in aerospace or precision manufacturing
- Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI)
