🏭 About MEPCO

Since 1903, MEPCO has designed and manufactured steam traps, centrifugal and regenerative turbine pumps, thermostatic radiator valves, regulating valves, strainers, heat exchangers, and expansion tanks for steam and hydronic heating systems used in buildings and industrial process applications worldwide. The company has spent more than a century building its reputation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, growing from an early-1900s manufacturer into a supplier trusted across heating and industrial-process markets. Today MEPCO runs a compact, roughly 20-person shop that combines Swiss turning and CNC milling to keep production in-house, machining the brass, stainless steel, and gray iron components that go into its own product lines. The company continues to invest in its equipment and its people, partnering with Gyrotech, the local Haas dealer, to run new operators through CNC 101 and G&M code training so hires without CNC experience can build real skill on the job.

👍 Why you'll like working here

MEPCO is a shop where you machine parts that go directly into MEPCO's own products, not someone else's spec sheet that changes every job. Production lots run 20,000 to 50,000 parts, so once you're dialed in on a job you get real time to build speed and consistency rather than constantly resetting for the next one-off. The shop is air-conditioned, runs water-based coolant with no oil smoke, and stays quiet. MEPCO invests in training rather than expecting new hires to arrive machine-ready: Gyrotech-run CNC 101 and G&M code classes plus 4-5 weeks working alongside experienced operators before you're expected to run independently. Turret lathe experience is welcome too — MEPCO will cross-train those operators onto Swiss equipment. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) match up to 4%, an annual bonus, and vacation that starts at 4 days after 90 days and grows toward 25 days over time.

⚙️ What you'll be working on

Swiss department operators run Tsugami and Citizen Swiss turn machines, machining brass and stainless steel to tolerances of ±0.005", with some features held to ±0.003". Mill department operators run mostly Haas machines plus two Mori Seiki mills with robotic arms for automated part handling, machining Class 30 gray iron to the same tolerance range. Operators run 2-3 machines at a time, handle their own tool changes and bar or part loads, and self-inspect using a first-piece/last-piece double-check process. Programming knowledge is a plus but not required — MEPCO doesn't want new hires rewriting existing programs, so the focus is on running jobs well and building toward setup work over time.
