🏭 About Hi-Tek Manufacturing
Hi-Tek Manufacturing traces back to 1980, when Cletis Jackson and Jack Cross founded System EDM; Gary Griessmann joined in 1984, and System EDM merged with Hi-Tek Manufacturing in 1990. What started as EDM and laser services for aerospace cooling holes has grown into a diversified precision manufacturer serving all major turbine engine OEMs with hot gas path and aviation/power-generation turbine engine components.
The company has expanded steadily for over four decades: a 1982 facility expansion, a 44,050 sq ft facility built at the 1990 merger, 87,550 sq ft of manufacturing space added by 1997, a $20 million capital investment in CNC equipment in 2006, and growth to 125,000 square feet across three facilities in Mason, Ohio by 2012. Between 2013 and 2021, Hi-Tek added fiber laser, heat treat/braze, and grinding capabilities in-house, building toward its current model: non-conventional processes (EDM, laser, grinding) and conventional CNC machining under one roof, so parts never have to ship between outside facilities.
Hi-Tek is AS9100D (ISO 9001:2015) certified and Nadcap accredited in Heat Treat, Braze, Welding, Non-Destructive Testing, Airflow Testing, and Nonconventional Machining, and is ITAR registered for defense work. The company emphasizes environmental responsibility and employee safety, with a stated goal of zero time-loss accidents.
👍 Why you'll like working here
Hi-Tek machinists work in a clean, climate-controlled facility on real aerospace and gas turbine hardware, backed by real investment in equipment: a $20 million CNC equipment buy in 2006 alone, and continued additions of laser, heat treat/braze, and grinding capability through 2021. Because non-conventional and conventional processes live under one roof, machinists see a wider range of work and more consistent flow than shops that ship parts out for EDM, laser, or grinding.
The company describes its culture around three principles: dedication ("fiercely loyal to one another, committed to a job well done"), reliability (cohesive teamwork and mutual support), and integrity (honesty, follow-through, and constructive feedback) — and says directly, "you're not just a number." That shows up in a 14-year average employee tenure. Hi-Tek offers competitive wages, a full benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life, short/long-term disability, 9 paid holidays, paid vacation, 401(k) with company match, HSA and Flex Spending, supplemental health plans), and shift differential pay for 2nd shift roles. On-the-job training is provided — "we will train you on everything else" — with an emphasis on building a long-term career path in the aerospace and gas turbine industries.
⚙️ What you'll be working on
Hi-Tek machinists produce hot gas path and turbine engine components in super alloys and high-temperature nickel-cobalt materials for major turbine engine OEMs and DoD customers. Work spans CNC milling on 5-axis horizontal and vertical machining centers and 4-axis verticals (capacity up to 60" x 40" x 36", with automatic tool setters, changers, probing, and pallet changers on larger units), CNC turning on horizontal centers up to 36" diameter and vertical turning centers up to 60" diameter with live tooling and standard touch probes, and CNC/CBN grinding on parts as large as 36" x 36" x 36".
Because EDM, laser processing, heat treat/braze, and material joining are all in-house, machinists' work connects directly to non-conventional processing rather than handing parts off to an outside vendor. Programs run through DNC server integration, 3D probing verifies dimensions before parts are removed from the machine, and an in-house metallurgical lab (established 1985) supports failure analysis and process troubleshooting. Quality is built into the job: first-article and in-process inspection, Cpk/Ppk process capability studies, and DMAIC-based continuous improvement (Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, 5-Why, FMEA/PFMEA).

📏 Quality & inspection
Hi-Tek is AS9100D (ISO 9001:2015) certified, ITAR registered, and Nadcap accredited in Welding, Non-Destructive Testing, Airflow Testing, Nonconventional Machining, and Heat Treat. Two full-time Level III certified inspectors run fluorescent penetrant inspection, CNC optical examinations catch defects standard visual inspection can miss, and an in-house metallurgical lab (established 1985) handles failure analysis, corrosion testing, chemical analysis, weld testing, and metallography. Process control runs on Cpk/Ppk studies, histograms, and scatterplots, with DMAIC-based continuous improvement — Pareto charting, fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, 5-Why analysis, and FMEA/PFMEA — built around a Plan-Do-Check-Act framework.
