🏭 About Custom Tool & Machine
Custom Tool & Machine is an established precision machine shop that has operated in Roanoke, Virginia, since 1992. The company provides CNC machining, tooling, engineering, assembly and inspection services for customers across aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, transportation and other demanding industries.
Its machining capabilities cover a broad mix of work, including Swiss machining, CNC turning, live-tooling lathe work, high-speed milling and complex 3D and 4-axis machining. The shop produces precision-machined components, prototypes, production parts, tooling, fixtures and assemblies using materials ranging from aluminum and engineered plastics to stainless steel, titanium and molybdenum.
Custom Tool & Machine has continued investing in versatile CNC equipment that allows its team to handle both specialized projects and repeat production work. Its equipment includes Swiss CNC machines, bar-fed CNC lathes with live tooling and high-speed machining centers.
For machinists, that means exposure to different processes, materials and part requirements rather than being limited to one narrow type of work. The company’s combination of machining, design, engineering and inspection capabilities also gives employees the opportunity to see how a part moves from concept through production and final quality approval.
👍 Why you'll like working here
Custom Tool & Machine offers the kind of environment where CNC operators and machinists can continue developing their skills instead of being expected to know everything on day one.
Depending on the position, employees may gain experience with Swiss machining, CNC turning, milling, bar-fed production and precision inspection. The company is open to training capable CNC operators who have a strong foundation and want to move into more advanced setup, programming or leadership responsibilities.
The shop also offers practical advantages, including first-shift opportunities, flexible starting hours for certain positions, weekly pay, a retirement-plan match, profit-sharing opportunities and tool and boot allowances.
Most importantly, machinists are doing precision work for industries where quality matters. Employees are expected to pay attention, communicate when something does not look right and take ownership of the parts coming off their machines.
