Summary of Position:This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of CNC and special-purpose machining equipment to produce high-quality metallic parts. The position requires strong knowledge of machining, blueprint reading, and precision measurement. The machinist ensures parts meet dimensional specifications, troubleshoots machining issues, and collaborates with engineers and production staff to resolve manufacturing challenges. Consistent adherence to safety standards and equipment maintenance practices is essential.Principal Responsibilities:Core Responsibilities:<ul><li>Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines to fabricate metallic parts</li><li>Applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques</li><li>Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and set up requirements</li><li>Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining</li><li>Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machine, such as saws, mills, grinding, burning and drilling equipment</li><li>Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut</li><li>Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required </li><li>Sets up and operates machine on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings</li><li>Verifies dimensions using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks</li><li>May develop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated</li><li>May confer with engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or assembly problems </li><li>Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.</li><li>Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.</li></ul>Scope of Position:&nbsp;This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting machining equipment to produce precise metallic components according to blueprints and specifications. The machinist must be able to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and maintain tools and equipment to support efficient production.Principal Responsibilities:Core Responsibilities:<ul><li>Lift workpiece manually or with hoist, position, and secure workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixture using clamps and wrenches.</li><li>Position and secure work piece on machine, using holding devices, measuring instruments, hand tools and hoists.</li><li>Study blueprints, layouts, sketches, or work orders to assess work piece specifications, determine tooling instructions, tools and materials needed and the sequence of operation.</li><li>Compute dimensions, tolerances, and angles of work pieces or machines, according to specifications and knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.</li><li>Verify alignment of work piece on machine, using measuring instruments such as rules, gauges, or calipers.</li><li>Observe milling or planning machine operation and adjust controls to ensure conformance with specified tolerances.</li><li>Move controls to set cutting specifications, to position cutting tools and work pieces in relation to each other, and to start machines.</li><li>Select cutting speed, feed rates and depth of cuts, applying knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.</li><li>Move cutters or material manually or by turning hand wheels, or engage automatic feeding mechanisms to mill work pieces to specifications.</li><li>Remove work pieces from machines, and check to ensure that they conform to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, and micrometers.</li><li>Replace worn tools, use hand tools, and sharpen dull tools, using bench grinders.</li><li>Ability to read blueprints, and use measuring instruments to determine conformance to specifications.</li><li>Motivated, accountable self-starter.</li><li>Lean knowledge desired but not required.</li><li>Own tools.</li></ul>Scope of Position:&nbsp;This role sets up and operates milling equipment, positioning and securing workpieces and selecting tooling to complete jobs according to specifications.
