The Instrument Shop has many functions that center around the repair and development of scientific instrumentation and devices for the many research and instructional laboratories of the University. These include facilities for optics, condensed matter physics, high energy nuclear physics, biophysics, biology, chemistry, geology, neuroscience, and astrophysics, including the CHARA Array long baseline interferometer telescopes at the Mount Wilson Observatory. The shop maintains a full complement of machines for the development and construction of new instrumentation and tailor-made scientific equipment. The work challenges are varied and often involve direct interaction with university faculty, postdocs, and students. The CNC Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager, they will be responsible for executing preventative maintenance; identifying potential issues that could interrupt machine uptime, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of various equipment used within the manufacturing environment.
