Why This Role Exists

PCX Aerosystems’ Long Beach division specializes in space-industry hardware supporting satellites, launch vehicles, and missile defense programs. With roots dating back to 1907 and proprietary spin-forming and COPV tank manufacturing capabilities, this site supports some of the most demanding aerospace applications in the industry.

This role exists to support independent CNC setup and operation for complex, flight-critical components where precision, judgment, and experience matter. The Machinist III plays a key role in production execution, process improvement, and first-article readiness.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently set up and operate vertical and horizontal CNC machines
  • Apply machining theory and best practices to produce parts that meet blueprint and customer requirements
  • Use setup books, shop aids, and customer data to complete accurate, efficient setups
  • Review CNC programs, identify issues, and make manual edits to optimize feeds, speeds, and cycle time
  • Recognize nonconforming programs before running First Article parts
  • Work with engineering to improve machining methods and procedures
  • Select and apply proper fixtures, tooling, and cutter compensation
  • Update setup books and programs with all edits, revisions, and rollover details
  • Document critical setup information to support repeatability and faster future setups
  • Maintain high standards for quality, safety, and productivity

Machines & Controls

  • VTL Machines: G&L, Shaboura
  • CNC Machines: Vertical and horizontal mills (various aerospace-capable)

Technical Scope & Expectations

  • Expert knowledge of CNC machining and blueprint interpretation
  • Strong understanding of G-codes, M-codes, tooling, fixturing, and cutter compensation
  • Confident reading and editing CNC programs
  • Strong shop math and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable supporting aerospace and defense manufacturing standards

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5–10 years of CNC machining experience
  • Proven ability to independently set up CNC machines
  • Strong blueprint reading and inspection skills
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and quality-focused
