Overview

Worthington Steel is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our Bowling Green, KY facility. This is an advanced-level role for an experienced machinist capable of building, repairing, and maintaining jigs, fixtures, and dies used in precision steel manufacturing.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of CNC machining, grinding, assembly, and die tryout, as well as the leadership skills to guide entry- and mid-level Tool & Die Makers. This position plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency, quality, and safety within our toolroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, repair, and maintain complex dies, jigs, and fixtures to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and assembly drawings to determine machining priorities.
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools to machine parts to tight tolerances.
  • Grind, fit, and assemble die components with precision.
  • Perform tool tryouts and adjust components for proper clearances and function.
  • Lead and train junior Tool & Die Makers, providing hands-on technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams on design improvements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and 5S initiatives to enhance safety, throughput, and tool longevity.
  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout, PPE, and confined space protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of Tool & Die making or precision machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, grinding, and assembly.
  • Ability to read micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of heat treatment, metallurgy, machining sequences, speeds, and feeds.
  • Solid math and trigonometry skills.
  • Effective communication, training, and leadership ability.
  • Completion of machine shop or toolmaking training preferred.
