Why This Role Exists

Camtool is a small shop building out its own in-house Swiss function, and this hire would own it. They need an experienced Swiss machinist who can set up and run Swiss lathes independently, program, and is comfortable with the tooling, tool holders, and collets needed to run the parts.

Camtool runs a Nomura. Experience on that specific machine is a plus, but they know it is a hard find, and application training from the equipment supplier is available. Swiss-specific programming experience (PartMaker) is also a plus but not required — Camtool is open to training the right person on Swiss programming once they are up to speed.

This is a chance to help shape a Swiss department from the ground up rather than simply staff an existing one.

The Work You'll Be Doing

• Set up and run Swiss CNC lathes from established and your own programs
• Select and set up the tooling, tool holders, and collets each Swiss job requires
• Develop setup sheets and manage tooling and tool life
• Edit programs and adjust offsets to dial in cycle time, chip control, and tool usage
• Analyze job travelers to determine operation sequence, tooling, feeds, and speeds
• Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measuring tools
• Troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently
• Grow into Swiss programming (PartMaker) as you get up to speed on the equipment
• Help train and mentor other machinists as Camtool builds out its Swiss capability
• Accurately document jobs run and any changes made

Micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment

What We're Looking For

Required

• 5+ years of Swiss CNC lathe experience (any brand)
• 2+ years of CNC lathe programming experience (not necessarily Swiss-specific)
• Working knowledge of the tooling, tool holders, and collets used to run Swiss parts
• Able to work independently on setup, running, and programming
• Strong blueprint reading skills
• Ability to inspect parts and hold tight tolerances
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred (Not Required)

• Experience on Nomura Swiss machines
• Swiss lathe programming experience, PartMaker ideally
• Experience training or mentoring other machinists
• Fixture or workholding design experience

Pay, Benefits & Schedule
