Description

The Student Machining Apprentice at Mate Precision Technologies will receive hands-on training related to all aspects of manufacturing including conducting maintenance on machines, operating various manual and CNC machines, and how to inspect and measure their completed parts using measuring devices.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Set up and run various machines while under close or direct supervision of a qualified and experienced Machinist.
  • Inspect work using gaging and inspection devices to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Meet expectations for productivity and quality and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Follow guidelines established for work scheduling and understand delivery objectives.
  • Participates in continuous improvement and lean activities.
  • Follow all safety rules and guidelines provided by Mate, the school, and the Department of Labor as outlined in the Youth Skills Training (YST) program.
  • Collaborate with others, is open-minded, responsive, and supportive of others' efforts to succeed.
  • Demonstrate integrity by being dependable, having good judgment, being honest, and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Respectful of others, encouraging others to share their ideas, actively listening to others, and having common courtesy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  • Current High School enrollment and participation in a Work Study Class that allows for employment through the YST program is required.
  • Good attitude and self-motivation.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills.
  • A willingness to learn new machining skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Occasional bending and stooping.
  • Use of hand to finger.
  • Lift, move, and pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • The noise level is moderate.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Pay, Work Schedule, & Benefits:
  • Starting Pay: $20/hour, plus the opportunity to earn a $1/hour shift differential if working on 2nd shift.
