As Siemens Energy continues expanding manufacturing capacity for gas turbine and power generation equipment, we are growing our large-part machining team in Charlotte, NC.

This role supports the machining of critical turbine and rotor components using Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) and Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs). These large, precision-machined components play a vital role in power generation systems around the world and require experienced machinists capable of maintaining tight tolerances and exceptional quality standards.

The Work You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Set up and operate large CNC Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) and Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs)
  • Machine gas turbine rotor components and other large power generation parts
  • Select tooling, fixtures, rotary tables, and workholding solutions
  • Load, run, and monitor CNC machining programs
  • Adjust tooling, offsets, feeds, and speeds to optimize performance
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections
  • Verify dimensions using micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment
  • Maintain tolerance and surface finish requirements on large-diameter components
  • Safely move and position large workpieces using overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Complete production documentation and quality records accurately
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC Vertical Boring Mills, Vertical Turning Lathes, or similar heavy machining equipment
  • Experience with Siemens and/or FANUC controls
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T requirements
  • Experience performing machine setups and tooling adjustments
  • Strong precision measurement and inspection skills
  • Ability to maintain tight tolerances on large-diameter components
  • Ability to obtain Fork Truck certification
  • Ability to obtain Critical Lift (B+) crane certification
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to obtain ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate (Silver Level or higher)

Preferred

  • Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) experience
  • Vertical Boring Mill (VBM) experience
  • Large-diameter machining experience
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine, aerospace, or heavy industrial machining experience
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 5S initiatives
