As Siemens Energy continues to expand manufacturing operations supporting Steam Turbine, Gas Turbine, Large Generator, and Combustion Component programs, we are growing our team of senior machinists in Charlotte, NC.

This position plays a key role in producing precision-machined power generation equipment used around the world. The Senior CNC Horizontal Milling Machinist will be responsible for complex setups, process optimization, troubleshooting, and mentoring less experienced machinists while helping drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the operation.

The Work You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Set up and operate CNC Horizontal Boring Mills and other large CNC machining centers
  • Machine turbine, generator, and combustion system components
  • Perform complex machine setups using specialized fixtures and workholding
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot CNC programs
  • Make G-Code and M-Code edits at the machine when required
  • Select tooling, establish offsets, and optimize machining processes
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections
  • Hold tolerances ranging from 0.0005" to 0.005"
  • Utilize precision inspection equipment to verify part quality
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to improve processes
  • Share knowledge and technical expertise with other machinists across the operation

What We're Looking For

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience
  • Strong proficiency operating Horizontal Boring Mills, CNC mills, or CNC lathes
  • Experience performing complex machine setups independently
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Experience with tooling selection, offsets, and process optimization
  • Knowledge of G-Code and M-Code programming
  • Strong metrology and inspection experience
  • Strong shop mathematics skills
  • Ability to hold tolerances ranging from 0.0005" to 0.005"
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to earn a Career Readiness / WorkKeys Certificate (Silver Level)

Preferred

  • Horizontal Boring Mill experience
  • CNC machining-related Associate Degree
  • Technical school or apprenticeship training
  • CNC programming certifications or coursework
  • Experience machining large power generation, aerospace, or heavy industrial components
  • Experience mentoring or training other machinists
