This Quality Technician role exists to provide hands-on inspection support for one-off, non-production work — ensuring issues are caught early, inspection methods are chosen intelligently, and quality processes continue to improve as the business grows.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Independently determine the appropriate inspection method based on part geometry, tolerances, and job requirements
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections
  • Use precision inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and similar equipment
  • Conduct special inspections such as:
    • Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT)
    • Material analysis using LIB gun
    • Surface profile / roughness measurements
    • Hardness testing
  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T to define inspection requirements
  • Perform dimensional checks using Faro Arm or similar equipment
  • Document inspection results and nonconformances accurately
  • Tag, segregate, and track parts requiring rework or hold status
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and team leads to resolve quality concerns
  • Manage and maintain the calibration system for measuring equipment
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance, internal audits, customer audits, and QMS training
  • Maintain a clean, organized inspection area and support continuous improvement initiatives

Tools, Systems & Equipment

You’ll work with:

  • Inspection Tools: Micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, surface roughness tools
  • Advanced Inspection: Faro Arm, NDT equipment, hardness testers
  • Systems & Software: Calibration systems, inspection records, ERP/QMS platforms
  • Standards: ISO 9001, Quality Management Systems (QMS)

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2–3+ years of experience in a machine shop environment with a strong quality focus
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
  • Ability to perform independent inspections on one-off, non-production jobs
  • Understanding of machining processes and inspection fundamentals
  • Willingness to learn and apply ISO 9001 and QMS procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely operate cranes and lifts
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills

Preferred (Not Required):

  • 5+ years of Quality Control or Inspection experience
  • Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing
  • Experience with Faro Arm, Laser Tracker, CMM, or related software
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Epicor ERP, SharePoint, or similar systems
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001
  • Experience supporting root cause analysis and nonconformance investigations
