Company: Metron Machining
Location: Lakewood, Colorado 80228
Pay: $38–$45/hr, based on demonstrated capability
Job Type: Full-time
Shift: First shift preferred; second and weekend shifts also available
Experience: CMM programming and mechanical inspection experience required
Inspection Software: PC-DMIS
Inspection Equipment: CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges and optical comparator

Why this job is worth considering

Metron Machining is looking for a Quality Inspector to support complex, tight-tolerance aerospace and defense work. The role is split approximately evenly between PC-DMIS CMM programming and hands-on mechanical inspection, so you will regularly use both skill sets.

You will be responsible for creating reliable inspection programs, completing First Article Inspections and giving production trusted measurement data. Metron is looking for someone with strong inspection fundamentals who wants to become the shop’s technical authority for measurement as the company grows.

This is an opportunity to help shape inspection standards and systems—not simply process parts through the quality department.

What you’ll be doing

  • Program and operate CMM equipment using PC-DMIS
  • Translate engineering drawings and GD&T requirements into clear inspection strategies
  • Perform mechanical inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, an optical comparator and other metrology tools
  • Select the appropriate inspection method based on feature geometry, tolerance and production flow
  • Establish CMM alignments and probe strategies that produce repeatable results
  • Complete First Article Inspections and support AS9102 documentation requirements
  • Work directly with machinists and engineers to resolve measurement questions
  • Produce clear, traceable and audit-ready inspection reports
  • Improve inspection programs and documentation to make future inspection cycles more efficient and predictable

Inspection equipment and software

This position combines CMM programming with traditional mechanical inspection.

You will work with:

  • PC-DMIS CMM programming and inspection
  • Coordinate measuring machines
  • Micrometers and calipers
  • Height and bore gauges
  • Thread and pin gauges
  • Optical comparator
  • First Article Inspection documentation
  • Engineering drawings and GD&T

The right candidate will understand when the CMM is the best inspection method and when a hand tool offers a faster or more appropriate solution.

What we’re looking for

Required

  • Hands-on experience programming and running CMM inspections in PC-DMIS
  • Experience performing mechanical inspection with precision measuring equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Experience contributing to First Article Inspections
  • Working knowledge of AS9102 requirements
  • Ability to select an appropriate measurement method based on tolerance, geometry and production needs
  • Ability to create stable, repeatable CMM programs
  • Clear communication with machinists, engineers and company leadership
  • Strong judgment when evaluating questionable or nonconforming results
  • Willingness to take ownership of inspection problems instead of passing them downstream
  • U.S. Person status as required under ITAR
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check

Preferred

  • Experience independently completing aerospace First Article Inspections
  • Experience inspecting complex, tight-tolerance machined components
  • Familiarity with five-axis machined parts
  • Interest in growing into the shop’s technical lead for inspection and measurement
