CNC Machinist – Okuma & Tsugami Setup
Statesville, NC
$28–$30/hour for experienced machinists | Up to $36+/hour for top-tier dual-platform talent
West Side Industries, a precision CNC job shop serving aerospace, defense, oil & gas, and industrial customers since 1943, is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with hands-on setup experience on both Okuma lathes and Tsugami Swiss-type machines.
The Role
Set up, program edits, and run jobs across our Okuma CNC lathes and Tsugami Swiss-type lathe. This is a hands-on role for a versatile machinist who can move between chuck-style and sliding-headstock work and own setups from blueprint to first article.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and run Okuma CNC lathes (chuck and bar work)
- Set up and run Tsugami Swiss-type lathe (sliding headstock, guide bushing)
- Edit programs at the control; tune offsets, feeds, and speeds for production
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and routing documents
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspection using calipers, micrometers, gages, and Comparator as needed
- Maintain tooling, fixtures, and machine condition
- Document work per our ISO 9001-compliant quality system
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years CNC turning experience with proven setup experience on both Okuma and Tsugami platforms
- Working proficiency with Fanuc and Yasnac controls
- Strong Swiss-type knowledge — guide bushing setup, bar feeder operation, tooling for small-diameter precision work
- Solid blueprint reading and GD&T skills
- Sharp attention to detail — commitment to making parts right the first time
- Experience across a variety of materials (stainless, aluminum, brass; nickel alloys, titanium, and PEEK a plus)
- Reliable, self-directed, and a good teammate
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or apprenticeship a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- $28–$30/hour for experienced machinists; up to $36+/hour for top-tier dual-platform talent
- Paid Time Off
- Benefits package in development
- Stable, day-shift work at a long-established shop
- Clean, organized facility with quality equipment
- Varied work — short runs, interesting parts, no two days the same
- Opportunity to grow with a company investing in its future
