ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Review work order specifications and tool sheet for each job order with machinists.
  • Assure that the tool sheet and provided tools correspond to each other and to the work order being produced and understand how tools for a specific job are to be used.
  • Review with machinists to ensure that the correct raw material and quantity of materials are provided and corresponds to the work order.
  • Provide CNC program required to create part and download into controller of the correct machine being used.
  • Assist in performing machine set up by correctly positioning tools and raw materials into machine, review CNC program and check all for accuracy. You must be able to set the machine up and troubleshoot if necessary. 
  • Oversee the production of one piece to create a first article and submit for inspection.
  • Be familiar with the machining of parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders and performs inspection using gauges, micrometers, and calibers.
  • Ensure parts are machined to customer specifications. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines and monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Ensure that your area of the shop is kept clean and tidy.
  • Review labor and ensure that the employees who report to you are following the company guidelines.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or related technologies with 1-3 years of experience, or an associate degree with 3-5 years of experience, or a certification from a technical training course and 5-10 years of experience is required. 

As a candidate, you must have hands on experience with CNC Mills, lathes, mill-turns or Swiss Lathes. You must know and understand G code machine programming with the ability to troubleshoot CNC programs if issues arise. You will need knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for the manufacturing process.

This position would be well suited for a CNC machinist, a machine shop leadman or a CNC class instructor who would be looking to take the next step in their career. Training will be provided to ensure that you will succeed with overseeing several CNC machinists.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must be very detailed oriented, organized, have good communication skills and be a team player.
  • You must be able to carefully perform each job task, have acute hand eye coordination.
  • You must be able to work quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.
