Brad Foote engineers, builds, and repairs precision gears and gearboxes for oil and gas, mining, steel, infrastructure, defense, and other industrial applications, with in-house heat treat capabilities and expertise across enclosed drives and loose gearing. The Manufacturing Engineer will work directly with the production floor to troubleshoot production challenges, assist with workflow through the plant, and create routings and work instructions. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants real ownership over process improvement in a machine shop doing true gear cutting, turning, and milling work. ISO 9001 experience is required, and AS9100 experience is a plus.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop detailed routings, work instructions, and engineering prints for CNC machining and CNC gear hobbing
- Develop and improve processes for manufacturing gear-related products
- Assist manufacturing supervisors with tooling, applications, and the selection of correct speeds and feeds for CNC machining, gear hobbing, and gashing
- Troubleshoot machining operations and machine tool problems on the shop floor, assisting supervisors and maintenance with problem-solving and repair
- Assist with the qualification and setup of first article inspection
- Analyze costs, processes, planning, and functional controls to drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, and delivery
- Work with tooth grinding and CMM/GMM operators to interpret and inspect gear micro-geometries
- Assist with plant layout of machine tools for product flow and efficiency
Machines, Controls and Software
This role works across CNC machining centers and CNC gear hobbing/gashing equipment, with exposure to tooth grinding and CMM/GMM inspection for gear micro-geometry. Reading G-code and conversational programming across various machine tool controllers is required, and strong knowledge of cutting tool and tooling/fixture applications is preferred.
What We're Looking For
Required
- BSME or similar degree, plus 3+ years of experience as a manufacturing engineer in a machining environment
- ISO9001 experience
- Ability to read technical drawings for precision gearing and components
- Ability to read and understand G-code and conversational programming for various machine tool controllers
Preferred
- Gearing industry experience, or heavy machining experience with knowledge of turning and milling
- AS9100 experience
- Strong knowledge of cutting tool applications
- Proficiency with precision measuring gages and product acceptance requirements, or willingness to learn
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles applied to machining, or willingness to learn
- CNC programming proficiency, or willingness to learn
Pay, Benefits and Schedule
This role pays $80,000–$100,000 per year on a full-time, exempt basis.
