Brad Foote has unique expertise in tight-tolerance gearing and precision machining, engineering, building, and repairing gears and gearboxes for wind, oil and gas, mining, steel, infrastructure, defense, and other industrial applications, with in-house heat treat capabilities. This position sets up and operates engine lathes, turret lathes, and vertical boring mills, performing complex close-tolerance turning, facing, boring, chamfering, recessing, and form-turning on a wide variety of production parts. It's hands-on work for an experienced manual machinist who takes pride in holding tight tolerances on production parts that go into demanding industrial equipment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Check the route sheet, blueprint, and sketch for each operation and instructions
  • Measure rough material and divide stock to ensure complete clean-up
  • Turn the first side per the turning sketch, blueprint, and route sheet instructions, checking all dimensions before removing the part
  • On the second side, use soft jaws when applicable, skin-cutting to run true within .001" T.I.R.
  • Add a proof spot to the back and O.D. when turning bevels, and check size before removing the part
  • Stamp parts and follow bar-coding procedures per company SOPs
  • Read and understand product drawings and written work instructions

What We're Looking For

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • At least 3 years of experience operating engine lathes, turret lathes, or vertical boring mills competently and efficiently
  • Ability to use shop mathematics, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, route sheets, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents and written work instructions

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work may involve sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, or stooping, with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibration, heat, humidity, cold, or other outside elements in manufacturing areas; PPE is required. Pay, Benefits and Schedule

This role pays $27.85–$31.19 per hour on a full-time, non-exempt basis.
