Position Summary

This role supports plant operations by troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimized downtime, and upholds safety standards while contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works directly with all departments and management to coordinate maintenance and repair work
  • Perform all functions listed under Required Skills below
  • Perform Level 1 and 2 Maintenance Technician responsibilities when requested or required
  • Support new equipment installation and commissioning as well as equipment decommissioning
  • Identify and implement improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency, and/or reduce operating costs
  • Assist in developing maintenance procedures and standard work instructions
  • Adheres to all OSHA, NFPA 70E, city, county, state, federal and company safety, health and environmental policies and regulations
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned

Required Skills

Electrical, Automation

  • PLC Diagnostics: connect to and navigate PLC software to diagnose complex system logic errors, track flickering inputs and resolve timing conflicts.
  • Power Distribution & VFDs: diagnose 3-phase electrical distribution systems up to 480V. Troubleshoot, configure, and tune Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) exhibiting overcurrent, thermal, or voltage faults.

Welding & Cutting Systems

  • Inverter Power Supplies: diagnose and repair heavy-duty industrial multi-purpose inverter welding machines (MIG, TIG, Sub-Arc), including high-frequency boards, IGBT modules, and wire-feeder control circuits.
  • Gas Infrastructure: manage and maintain the plant’s bulk gas distribution manifolds (Argon, CO₂, Oxygen, Acetylene). Inspect flowmeters, gas mixers, and high-pressure line regulators to prevent production bottlenecks.

Hydraulics

  • Read and interpret complex mobile hydraulic schematics to troubleshoot multi-spooled directional control valves, hydrostatic drive systems, and pilot-operated control circuits.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic cylinder drift, internal piston bypass leaks, and pressure loss in primary lift cylinders, tilt cylinders, and specialized attachments (e.g., side shifters).

Reliability & Safety

  • Root Cause Analysis: lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) investigations on recurring machine failures to develop permanent engineering solutions rather than temporary fixes.
  • Rigging & Facility Safety: inspect and maintain overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling systems. Rig and move heavy machinery safely adhering to strict weight calculations.
  • Compliance: ensure absolute compliance with OSHA standards, specialized Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols for multi-sourcing energy systems, and National Electrical Code (NEC) guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Progressive experience (preferably 5-7 years) working in an industrial manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment, with at least 3 years supporting an industrial welding, stamping, or structural fabrication facility
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance procedures and interpret written and oral instructions including technical manuals, blueprints, construction plans, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Proficient at using digital multimeters, megohmmeters (meggers), oscilloscopes, laser alignment tools, and mechanical precision measurement equipment (micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Ability to read, write and speak in the English language
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a Plus, but not required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 environment
  • SMRP Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (SMRT)
  • NCCER Industrial Maintenance Mechanic or AWS/SACA automation certifications
  • Lockout/Tagout certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30 training
  • NFPA 70E training

Work Conditions/Environment

Majority of work will be performed in a plant manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures. Ability to work weekends, overtime and on call as needed. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use hands and fingers to feel and handle; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear. The employee may be required to bend; twist, stoop, crouch or kneel on a frequent basis. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces or elevated spaces.
