What you'll be doing

• Set up and safely operate saws, lathes, mills, drill presses, and bench grinders
• Read and interpret complicated blueprints and sketches, and develop sketches from supplied parts when needed
• Perform detailed layout work and complete equipment set-ups under limited supervision from senior shop personnel or management
• Hold tolerances of +/- .003 of an inch consistently
• Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed and immediately communicate any safety concerns to management
• Display and execute a safety-first approach for yourself and your coworkers

What we're looking for

Required

• Must meet all requirements for Machinist B (Job Code 4848) plus two additional years of experience, for a total of 7 years of machine shop or applicable trade school experience, or a combination of both
• Must pass the machine part qualification test for Machinist A prior to hire or promotion
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
• Must pass a physical examination as determined by WSTF's physical examination requirements for this job classification
• Must have basic computer skills
• Must be able to meet certification requirements, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WTDB)
