Why this job is worth considering

MIT Lincoln Laboratory's Fabrication Engineering Group builds advanced hardware prototypes for national security research programs, and this role owns the dimensional verification that confirms those mission-critical components meet print before they move forward. You'll program and run CMMs and vision systems from solid models, work hands-on with precision gaging, and see parts through from first-article inspection to final sign-off. It's a chance to apply serious inspection skill on work that matters, backed by MIT's benefits and stability.

What you'll be doing

  • Perform dimensional verification of mechanical parts against engineering drawings and specifications
  • Develop inspection plans using available equipment and inspection technology
  • Program and operate coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) and vision systems directly from solid models
  • Conduct manual gaging using micrometers, height gages, thread gages, and bore gages
  • Track parts and record inspection results in SAP and ARAS Innovator
  • Perform light to moderate lifting, up to a maximum of 50 lbs

Machines, controls and software

  • Coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) – programming and operation
  • Vision systems
  • Manual gaging tools: micrometers, height gages, thread gages, bore gages
  • Inspection software exposure: Solidworks, Zeiss Calypso, CMM Manager, Polyworks, Zone3
  • SAP and PLM systems (ARAS Innovator)
