This opening is for a machinist who can run manual mills and lathes and also program and run CNC machines, building custom parts from drawings, blueprints or part samples.

Please read before applying: the shop is looking for real machining experience. This is a hands-on role for a versatile, skilled machinist, not an entry-level CNC operator position.

You will work with steel, stainless, aluminum and plastics, often independently from setup through a finished, inspected part. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, with possible overtime on Fridays.

What you'll be doing

• Run manual mills and lathes to machine precision parts from scratch or from drawings
• Program and run CNC mills and lathes using G-code or conversational programming
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and part samples
• Machine steel, stainless, aluminum and plastics
• Work independently to design and build accurate components
• Use CAD/CAM or G/M-code programming (Mastercam experience is a plus)
• Hold close tolerances and verify dimensions with measuring tools

Machines, controls and software

The role covers both manual and CNC equipment: manual mills and lathes, and CNC mills and lathes. The equipment list on the shop's website also includes a Haas VF7 vertical machining center. Programs are written in G-code or conversationally, and CAD/CAM knowledge is a bonus, with Mastercam and Fusion 360 listed as the CAM software.

What we're looking for

Required

• 5+ years of hands-on experience running manual machines
• 5+ years programming and operating CNC mills and lathes
• Strong blueprint reading and mechanical problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers and other precision instruments
• Comfort machining complex, one-off parts

Preferred

• Mastercam programming
• CAD/CAM knowledge
