Why this job is worth considering

This is a first-shift CNC setup role at KARL STORZ’s Franklin, MA manufacturing facility, where machinists produce precision components for medical devices used in operating rooms and surgery centers. You will set up and run lathes, mills and Swiss-style machines, edit programs at the machine, and inspect your own parts to print.

The work includes stainless steel, nitinol and other exotic metals in a regulated environment, so quality and documentation matter as much as cycle time. If you are a setup machinist who wants to stay close to the machine and the process, this is worth a look.

What you’ll be doing

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills and Swiss-style machines using setup sheets, layouts and production requirements.
  • Edit CNC programs, make machine adjustments and troubleshoot machining processes to keep quality and efficiency on track.
  • Inspect machined components to blueprint specifications and record inspection data accurately.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and basic Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
  • Work with stainless steel, nitinol, nickel alloys and other exotic metals.
  • Take part in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement work, including root-cause analysis and process optimization.

What we’re looking for

Required

  • 3–5+ years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup and operation.
  • Experience setting up CNC equipment from setup sheets, layouts or technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and inspect components to print.
  • Experience editing CNC programs and making process adjustments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to CNC machining and equipment operation.
  • Medium to advanced computer skills and experience with production documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred

  • Experience machining medical device components.
  • Knowledge of GMP, FDA, ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience with nitinol, stainless steel, nickel alloys or other exotic metals.
  • Prior experience supporting Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.

Pay, benefits and schedule

$26.15–$33.27 per hour, depending on experience. Full-time, 1st shift, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM.
