This role will be responsible for developing, writing, and optimizing CNC programs in an AS9100 machining facility in accordance with internal policies and procedures as well as customer requirements. The focus of this position is to produce accurate and optimal CNC programs for all new products in production. Additionally, this role will include developing methods of manufacture, 3D modeling/drawing development, and on the floor troubleshooting; all while maintaining world-class standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Maintain a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and professional development within the engineering team.
  • Review department work products (e.g., technical reports, drawings, programs, etc.) for completeness.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement continuous improvement items for department.
  • Provide engineering support to the production floor as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace and adhere to all safety protocols in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in engineering meetings regarding manufacturing capabilities, project progress, and process improvement.

Engineering/Support

  • Evaluate customer requirements from purchase orders, drawings and specifications to develop manufacturing methods and production routers.
  • Work closely with production teams to support smooth workflow, troubleshooting, and resolve production issues.
  • Utilize ERP software to maintain an accurate database of engineering methods.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop cost-effective manufacturing methods. that align with best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all engineering/programming documents, tooling sheets, setup notes, and process documentation to ensure traceability and compliance with AS9100 requirements.
  • Propose and implement process improvements for machining operations to increase efficiency, reduce scrap, and improve product quality.

CAD/CAM

  • Transform customer drawings into 3D SolidWorks files for manufacturing.
  • Utilize Esprit CAM software to produce highly complex CNC programs.
  • Select and implement cutting tools, fixtures, and automation solutions to enhance machining capabilities.
  • Work closely with machinists to optimize CNC programs for cycle time reduction and extend tool life.
  • Collaborate with OEM manufacturers and tooling representatives to ensure the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.

Goals

30-Day Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of ERP (JobBOSS) software with the goal of inputting a rough job routing.
  • 90% of the time clocked in to jobs.
  • Develop an understanding of CAD (SolidWorks) software with the goal of designing a fixture/jaws for a current project.
  • Develop a 90-day plan to increase the number of CNC programs produced per month.

90-Day Objectives

  • Increase CNC program output to 8-10 programs per month from Engineering.
  • Integrate AI and industry best practices within Esprit to optimize programming time.
  • Standardize tooling and work holding applications.
  • Develop and understanding of CAD (Solidworks) software with the goal of producing a fully configured 3D model to be used for production.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in machining and programing.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machines including both lathe and mills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with both internal teams and external customers.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
