Description

Summary: This is a machinist position with a primary focus on production activities not executed by automated CNC equipment. The position executes the wide variety of manual activities required to not only produce components, but also secondary operations, modifications, alterations, material movements, etc. The position requires knowledge of all machines shop/ fabrication equipment and the skills to produce quality components.

Time Utilization: Normal business hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm unless working second shift which requires work hours of 3:00pm - 11:30pm. Schedule needs to be flexible and open to work overtime as needed to accommodate production schedules

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Operate any and all manual machine shop/fabrication equipment that is necessary to support production needs as well as support CNC equipment activities as required


  1. Take ownership of the assigned work center production orders and complete those components to the agreed quality by the agreed due date


  1. Communicate and coordinate with other department personnel concerning scheduling, documentation, designs or any activity needing clarification with associated components


  1. Expedites specialty production activities necessary to support floor production, customer service, engineering as required to meet customer expectations


  1. Performs secondary operations to support CNC/Fabrication production such as part deburing, installation of plugs/inserts, surface finishing, countersink, hand drilling,pressbrake, etc.


  1. Set up/ operate/ program if required (CNC and non- CNC) lathe, drilling units, manual mills, finishing equipment, TIG/MIG welding equipment, etc.


  1. Execute solely the daily schedule on CNC machine centers.


  1. Locate, identify and stage raw materials to support both CNC and non-CNC production


  1. Manage the packaging, transport, paperwork and documentation involved with outsourcing materials to outside vendors while meeting accurate due dates for those parts. Includes anodizers and outside bead blasting


  1. Maintains organized filing structure to adhere to departmental guidelines


  1. Inspects and documents daily, the Overhead cranes and pendulums to ensure safe usage.


  1. Maintains a safe and highly organized work area using established 5S practices

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years of manufacturing experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong working knowledge of metal machining and fabrication required. Ability to work from 2D and 3D drawings is a must. Ability to independently create components from drawings without additional instruction required. Experience as a lead or set up technician is a plus. Engineering or design experience is a plus. Previous work experience in a CNC manufacturing environment is a plus. Any 4- or 5- axis experience is a plus. Experience in BOM or production orders is a plus.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to communicate with the team and to openly discuss topics of interest. Must be able to interpret and discuss general documents such as dimensional machine layouts, component drawings, written procedures and product information.

Math Ability:

Speed and feed calculations, Metric and Standard calculations, basic and advanced measuring techniques, Ability to calculate dimensions, percentages, area and volume. Must be able to measure both English and Metric dimensions. Knowledge of resources available to complete these tasks.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to convert component drawings into real finished parts. The ability to make subjective decisions to positively impact production of required components.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of computers. The ability to work with spreadsheets, word documents, inventory and manufacturing software is a plus.

Certificates and Licenses:
Current valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to work near metal cutting, welding and bending machinery. The associate is occasionally exposed to dust, sparks, cooling fluid vapors and metal particulate matter.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The associate will be regularly required to lift and /or move up to 75 pounds in order to load and remove raw materials from the milling center. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, Depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk, talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl. The associate is frequently required to sit.
