Why this job is worth considering
MTech manufactures advanced aerospace components for commercial and Department of Defense (DoD) customers, and this role is central to keeping the shop's AS9100 certification and solving tough manufacturing problems. You'll program, set up and run 3- and 5-axis machines on demanding, high-precision parts, from prototypes through high-volume production.
You'll also be the senior technical resource on the floor: mentoring junior machinists, giving engineers design feedback, and helping improve how parts get made. MTech's manufacturing department is growing, and the company is looking for someone ready to take on a shop-floor leadership role and drive prototype development.
MTech offers a relocation package and/or a signing bonus of up to $10,000 for qualified candidates.
What you'll be doing
- Program, set up and operate 3- and 5-axis CNC machines from solid models and complex technical drawings.
- Support prototype development and manage short-run and high-volume production schedules.
- Advise on material hardness, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and coolant requirements.
- Interpret complex geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to keep parts to spec.
- Run in-process inspections with calipers, micrometers, height gages and other measurement tools.
- Operate and maintain CNC mills, lathes, shears and other shop equipment, including scheduled maintenance within reasonable capabilities.
- Mentor and train junior machinists on best practices and advanced techniques.
- Give engineers design feedback to improve prototypes and production parts.
- Help the production team with run times and capabilities for scheduling and estimating.
- Complete manufacturing documentation and material control accurately, and follow all safety, quality and environmental requirements.
Machines, controls and software
- 3- and 5-axis CNC machining centers, plus CNC mills, lathes and shears
- Okuma 3- and 5-axis machines with OSP-300MA controls (preferred)
- Grob 5-axis machines, large 5-axis work and horizontal mills (a plus)
- Siemens NX (preferred)
What we're looking for
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 10 years of CNC programming and machining experience.
- Advanced proficiency in 3- and 5-axis programming, setup and operation for precision aerospace components.
- Expert knowledge of material properties, cutting tools, machining parameters and coolant requirements.
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Proficiency creating work holding solutions for large, complex parts.
- Leadership and mentorship ability, and strong 6S housekeeping habits.
- Independent troubleshooting of machining issues, plus strong collaboration and communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship, due to DoD contract requirements.
- A clean record and the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred
- Siemens NX experience.
- Okuma 3- and 5-axis machines with OSP-300MA controls.
- Grob 5-axis machine, large 5-axis machining and horizontal mill experience (each a plus).
- Background in general fabrication and assembly (a plus).
Physical demands
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
Pay, benefits and schedule
