CNC Machinist – 5-Axis Mill / Live Tooling Lathe (Day or Night Shift)

• Experience Level: Mid (2–5+ years)

This role exists due to increased customer demand and shop growth, with Gretna actively building out a second shift to support workload beyond current capacity.

At Gretna Machine Shop, this position plays a key role in producing high-quality, small-batch components, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, flexibility, and machining expertise.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

• Set up and operate CNC 5-axis mills or live tooling lathes
• Make program edits and adjustments at the machine
• Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
• Select tooling, set offsets, and verify setups
• Run low-volume, high-mix jobs (not high production)
• Perform in-process inspection and maintain quality standards
• Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize performance
• Contribute to a growing team and support second shift development

Machines, Controls & Software

You’ll work with equipment such as:

5-Axis Mills:

• Haas (Haas Control)
• Okuma (OSP Control)

Lathes (Live Tooling):

• Doosan Puma (3100 LY, GT 3100M, 3100 LSY, 5100 LY)

Other Equipment:

• Doosan / DN Solutions machines
• Controls: Fanuc, Haas, Okuma OSP

Materials You’ll Work With

• Steel
• Aluminum
• Various production materials depending on job mix

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• 2+ years CNC machining experience
• Setup experience on mills or lathes
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
• Experience making program edits at the machine
• Strong work ethic and reliability

Preferred (Not Required):

• 5-axis machining experience
• Live tooling lathe experience
• Programming experience (growth potential into leadership roles)
• Interest in growing into a lead role (especially on 2nd shift)

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

Pay Range:

• 5-Axis Machinist: $28 – $38/hr
• Live Tooling Lathe Machinist: $26 – $38/hr

Pay Notes:

• +$1/hr shift differential for nights
• Pay based heavily on experience (GD&T + setup = higher end)
