As a CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist, you’ll play a critical role in producing high-precision components for aerospace, medical, optical, and high-tech customers. This is not a button-pushing role — it’s a true setup position where quality, consistency, and craftsmanship matter.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Perform complete CNC lathe setups for repeat and production jobs
  • Set up and run single-turret horizontal CNC lathes with Y-axis
  • Work with lathe + live tooling / mill-turn configurations
  • Load, edit, and prove out programs as needed
  • Set tooling, offsets, and workholding
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Hold tight tolerances on precision components
  • Perform in-process and first-article inspections
  • Collaborate with programmers, engineering, and quality teams
  • Follow AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality procedures and documentation

Machines, Controls & Software

You’ll work with equipment such as:

Machines:

  • CNC Lathes with Y-axis and live tooling (mill-turn)

Controls:

  • Fanuc

CAM Software:

  • Mastercam

Inspection Tools:

  • Standard precision measuring tools for in-process inspection

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • 5–10 years of CNC machining experience, focused on CNC lathes
  • Proven experience performing full CNC lathe setups
  • Experience with Fanuc controls
  • Ability to read blueprints and machine to print
  • Strong understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds, and offsets
  • Comfortable working independently in a production environment

Preferred (Not Required):

  • Experience with mill-turn or live tooling
  • Familiarity editing Mastercam-generated programs
  • Experience in AS9100 / ISO-certified machine shops
