Median pay for CNC mill machinist postings on our board right now: $32.50/hr, across 52 live listings that post a range. The middle half of postings run $28.88 to $37.50/hr.

That puts mill work almost exactly alongside setup machinist ($32.50/hr, n=47) and just above lathe/turning ($32.00/hr, n=38) — mill isn’t the top-paying specialty on the board, but it isn’t the bottom either. What Pushes Mill Pay Higher

The highest-paying mill postings on the board right now cluster around specialized work — national-lab precision machining, multi-axis contract work, and platform-specific programming — not tenure alone:

How This Compares to the Government Number

The BLS doesn’t break out CNC mill machinists specifically — the closest figure is the blended “machinists” median, $28.25/hr (May 2025, Occupational Outlook Handbook).
