Responsibilities PURPOSE OF POSITION: Fabricate, position and form structural metal/fiberglass products. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Use and conduct proper care of PPE. • Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, saws, and presses, to cut, bend, straighten, and form metal/fiberglass plates, sheets and structural shapes according to blueprints and specifications. • Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation. • Selects, positions, and secures dies, blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machine, using rule, square, shims, templates, hand tools, and built-in gauges. • Starts machine and observes machine operation to reposition work piece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes. • Inspects or measures work, using rule, gauges, and templates. • Lifts work piece manually or with hoist, and positions and secures it on machine table in drilling jig or holding fixture. • Moves machine controls to feed tools into work piece, and engages automatic feed or manually holds. • Observes machine operation, and verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers. • Changes worn cutting tools, using wrenches. • Moves controls to adjust cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut. • Support the Altec Production System (APS). • Follow established safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures and practices. • Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment. • Maintain daily time records. • Other job duties as assigned. • Job duties may vary by location. SUMMARY: Sets up computerized numerically controlled machine tools and related equipment for machining operations. Participates in problem solving activities and contributes to quality improvements. Operates machines when required. Trains other department employees and provides performance assessment feedback to supervisor. DESCRIPTION: <ul><li>Works from drawings, blueprints, job layouts, or other written specifications, determines feeds, speeds, tooling and operational sequences.</li><li>Set up and inspect first article part on any proven program and turn it in for Quality Assurance verification at an 80% approval rate.</li><li>Change cutting tools and location of work pieces during machining process.</li><li>Installs cutting tools and various work holding devices to handle the size of stock to be machined.</li><li>Operates and adjusts machines until parts produced conform with specifications and time standards.</li><li>Makes necessary adjustments to set-ups during course of operations to maintain accurate production.</li><li>Responsible for completeness of secondary set ups.</li><li>Detects and reports improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions.</li><li>Detects and reports significant variances in job standards.</li><li>Upon completion of "First Article of Verification" trains and monitors work of operator assigned to that machine.</li><li>Run multiple plane operations.</li><li>Using an air hose the employee cleans the parts.</li><li>Run multiple CNC machines.</li><li>Tolerances of +/- .005</li><li>Works with highly cosmetic parts</li><li>Performs secondary operations as defined by traveler, using various machines/tools such as files, drill presses and sanders.</li><li>Assists operators on which dimensions to inspect, (proper tools and gauges).</li><li>Basic programming</li><li>Ensures quality of parts before forwarding them to next operation/process.</li><li>Responsible for cleanliness of his/her own work area and the general housekeeping of the Company.</li><li>Reports any unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Management/Maintenance.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>REQUIREMENTS: <ul><li>The ability to use micrometers, calipers, height gauges and dial indicators.</li><li>1 to 3 years CNC Set up experience.</li><li>1 to 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.</li><li>Mandatory 4th axis machining experience.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints a must.</li></ul>
