Our Swiss turning operations are essential to holding ultra-tight tolerances and producing complex geometries. This role exists because even the best CNC programs rely on flawless setup and execution on the shop floor.

As a Swiss CNC Setup Technician, you are the link between engineering intent and manufacturing reality—ensuring every job runs correctly the first time and consistently meets specification.

Job Responsibilities

Swiss CNC Setup & Execution

  • Set up Swiss-type CNC turning centers and mill-turn machines for production
  • Select and install tooling, guide bushings, collets, and workholding
  • Load CNC programs and establish accurate tool and work offsets
  • Verify setups through detailed first-article inspection

Program Prove-Out & Inspection

  • Run first articles using setup sheets and engineering drawings
  • Measure critical features using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, pin gauges, and optical comparators
  • Validate parts meet tolerances as tight as ±0.0002" before releasing to production

Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Identify and correct tooling wear, offset drift, and fixturing issues
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, and tool positions to maintain quality and optimize cycle times

Documentation & Maintenance

  • Document setup details, tool changes, and adjustments
  • Maintain clean, organized, and production-ready machines
  • Support AS9100 and ISO 13485 quality requirements

Collaboration

  • Communicate with CNC programmers regarding setup or program issues
  • Work with Quality and Production teams to meet schedule demands while maintaining strict quality standards

Qualifications

Required

  • 2–4 years of experience setting up and operating Swiss-type CNC turning machines
  • Strong understanding of Swiss-turn tooling, workholding, and setup procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Proficiency with precision inspection tools
  • Experience machining materials such as stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, brass, and exotic alloys

Preferred

  • Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Tornos, or similar controls
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 13485, lean manufacturing, or 5S

Physical & Work Environment

  • Climate-controlled manufacturing facility
  • Standing for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Overtime available based on production needs
