Who we are:

Electra is electrifying ironmaking to decarbonize steelmaking and eliminate 3.7 gigatons or 10% of global CO2 emissions. Leveraging proven industrial-scale electrochemical and hydrometallurgical processes, and backed by leading sustainability-focused venture capitalists, our team is developing lower cost, scalable solutions utilizing intermittent renewable energy to forge a cleaner, greener future for the trillion-dollar steel industry.

With a uniquely collaborative culture, endless passion for developing disruptive technologies, and the opportunity to revolutionize carbon-intensive manufacturing industries, careers at Electra offer challenge, reward, and the chance to bring to market solutions that dramatically improve the health of the planet.

What you will do:

Electra is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to work on advanced machining tasks critical to our production efforts. This role ensures the durability, cost efficiency, and performance of our electrochemical cells by working closely with our manufacturing and stack engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience, including expertise in CNC machining, a strong understanding of quality control and measurement principles, and a commitment to prioritizing safety.

In this role, you will:
  • As a Senior CNC Machinist, one of your primary responsibilities will be supporting the production of high-quality, custom parts for our novel electrochemical cells and assisting in maintaining efficient machine shop operations.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual mills and lathes, delivering high-quality machined components to meet tight tolerances and specifications.
  • Create and optimize 2D and 3D CNC programs for 3-axis mills and turning centers using MasterCam 2025. Perform G-code edits and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Oversee and manage machine shop operations in the supervisor's absence, ensuring seamless workflow, task prioritization, and adherence to quality and safety standards, particularly during support of new plant development.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of machined components using precision measurement tools and ensure compliance with GD&T standards.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings, refine designs for manufacturability, and provide feedback on machining feasibility.
  • Develop and refine machining protocols, tool setups, and workflows to enhance efficiency, throughput, and safety.
  • To sustain machine shop operations, manage part priorities, communicate part queue timelines, and maintain raw materials and tooling inventory.
  • Uphold our machine shop's cleanliness and organization standards, aligning with our 6S program to ensure optimal efficiency and safety.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.
What we need you to bring to the team:
  • 5-10 years of machining experience in engineering or prototyping environments.
  • Trade school or college certifications in precision machining.
  • A safety-first mindset: share potential risks with others before they result in hazardous outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage machining tasks from concept to completion, including planning, programming, and execution.
  • Proficiency with both manual and CNC machining techniques.
  • Advanced skills in MasterCam 2025 for CNC programming.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T principles and ability to interpret complex technical drawings.
  • Proficient understanding of machining principles, including tool selection, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage the machine queue effectively.
  • Great communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience or the desire to be in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
What we want you to bring to the team:
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with Haas CNC machine controls and Renishaw probing systems.
  • Experience with tool presetters and common shop tools.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and safety protocols.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time while operating machinery or performing tasks on the shop floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to lift or carry heavy materials, tooling, or machined parts.
Compensation:
  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $38.50- $46.50 hourly and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
