This role exists to support new machine development, R&D testing, and advanced tooling needs as TRAK Machine Tools continues to innovate next-generation CNC machines and ProtoTRAK® controls.

As a Prototype & Tool Room Machinist at TMT, you’ll play a critical role in transforming engineering concepts into physical, high-precision components that directly influence machine performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

This is not a production-only role — your work directly impacts how CNC machines are designed, built, and used by machinists nationwide.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

• Machine high-precision prototype and tool room parts for new CNC machine designs
• Work directly with engineering on R&D testing, design refinement, and manufacturability
• Design, build, and modify fixtures, jigs, and custom tooling
• Support production and assembly with one-off and low-volume components
• Set up and operate both manual and CNC machines
• Inspect and verify parts using precision measuring equipment
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, tooling, and product performance
• Contribute hands-on feedback that directly shapes future CNC machine designs

Machines, Controls & Software

You’ll work with equipment and tools such as:

• Machines: Manual machines and CNC mills/lathes (tool room & prototype environment)
• Controls: ProtoTRAK® CNC controls (preferred)
• CAD/CAM: Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, or similar
• Inspection Tools: Micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gages, and precision measuring tools

Materials You’ll Work With

• Aluminum
• Steel (various grades)
• Cast iron
• Other prototype and machine-tool-related materials

What We’re Looking For

Required

• 7+ years of machining experience (prototype or R&D environment strongly preferred)
• Strong ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T
• Experience setting up and operating manual and CNC machines
• Working knowledge of CAD/CAM systems
• Basic G-code programming experience
• Comfortable inspecting and holding tight tolerances
• Detail-oriented, self-directed, and collaborative

Preferred (Not Required)

• Experience with ProtoTRAK® controls
• Background machining one-off or low-volume prototype parts
• CMM or advanced digital inspection experience

Pay Range: $80,000 – $100,000 annually (DOE)
