PRIMARY PURPOSE
Under close supervision of the Plant Manager, Shop Supervisors, and mentors to gain experience in the machining trade to assist in producing a quality product efficiently and productively, as well as, performing general labor throughout the facility. In addition, expand knowledge of the machining trade and the importance of delivering quality products to customers.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Students age 17 are not permitted to operate forklifts, cranes, or hand power tools at any time and must use proper PPE required in shop and for specific tasks.
During active school year only:
Operate CNC and manual machining equipment, with supervision of mentor/trainer.
During active school year or summer:
Shadow machinists on various equipment (no operation during the summer)
Assist with organization and 6S projects. (No hazardous assistance such as using epoxy products.)
Perform general shop labor duties, such as painting, staining, sweeping, cleaning, removing chips from machines and machine areas and packaging product (no power saws or tools).
Use manual equipment to perform functions (files to deburr, manual stamping, micrometers, calipers, etc.)
Accurately transfer information from the part print or other related documents, as instructed, to parts or other documentation.
Report to work on-time with a positive attitude and ready to learn and accomplish tasks.
Perform well by meeting supervision expectations on the shop floor.
Ask relevant questions and ask for help with processes or tasks not understood. Communicate with your trainer. Be open and honest in communications.
Implement and follow all safety and quality plans in accordance with company programs and policies.
Complete required and/or optional approved training, online or in-house training
Other job-related duties permitted and within guidelines that may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Junior or Senior in machining or related school program, recommended by instructor and/or school staff
Basic mathematical skills; ability to copy product code, serial numbers, or other minor copying; understanding of written directions; and verbal communication to provide information and assistance
Mechanical aptitude
