Position Overview
The Finishing Technician is responsible for performing post-production operations on CNC machined metal parts to ensure they meet customer specifications. Working from drawings and customer specifications they will: remove blemishes and other sharp edges, ensure customer surface finish requirements are met, mark parts using the requested method, perform minor assembly operations, and clean parts. Attention to detail, thoroughness, and a drive to safely meet and exceed customer expectations are critical for success in this role.
What You’ll Do
- Remove machining marks, sharp edges, and burrs from completed CNC machined metal parts using hand tools, metal files, pneumatic tools, and sandpaper.
- Ensure customer surface finish requirements are met per drawing specifications by utilizing pneumatic tools, sanding paper, and polishing compounds.
- Ensure parts are marked according to customer specifications by following work instruction documents using the appropriate method, including laser, chemical etch, vibropeen (machine and hand tool), and ink stamping.
- Perform sandblasting operations.
- Installation of threaded inserts and pins per customer assembly requirements.
- Utilize mild detergents in wash tubs and ultrasonic cleaners to clean parts to customer requirements.
- Responsible for reading and interpreting customer and supplier drawings and specifications.
- Will use digital measurement tools with an emphasis on dimensional accuracy and precision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good computer skills, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
- Ability to utilize tooling with good manual dexterity.
- Understanding of a manufacturing environment and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of basic quality control principles.
- Basic level math skills.
- Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision.
What We Are Looking For
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong preference for experience that includes deburring, buffing, and polishing of metal parts within a CNC machining manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating hand tools to include buffing and polishing.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
Even Better
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience; ASME Y14.5 - 2018 foundational level certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Previous experience in a precision machine shop with CNC Mills/Lathes.
- Previous experience in an AS9100 Environment strongly preferred.
- Experience in achieving surface finish requirements per customer specifications.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or two years of equivalent higher education strongly preferred; equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Pay Range
- $18 – $20 per hour.
