Role and Responsibilities
As a CNC Machine Shop Estimator, you will be responsible for estimating the cost and time required to produce precision aerospace components. This position requires a deep understanding of aerospace machining processes, materials, and industry standards. You will work closely with engineering, production, and procurement teams to provide accurate and competitive quotes, ensuring projects meet customer requirements and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to create detailed cost estimates for aerospace machining projects.
- Analyze part geometry and machining processes to determine optimal methods, tooling, and machining time.
- Provide accurate pricing for labor, materials, and overhead costs.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to assess project feasibility and ensure alignment on technical requirements.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to obtain pricing information and assess material costs.
- Ensure all estimates are compliant with aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline the estimating process and reduce costs.
- Prepare and present detailed proposals and quotations to customers.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, with a strong focus on aerospace components and materials.
- Proven experience in estimating costs for CNC machining, including knowledge of labor, tooling, material, and overhead pricing.
- In-depth understanding of aerospace industry standards, materials (e.g., titanium, aluminum, Inconel), and machining processes (e.g., milling, turning, 5-axis).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Catia), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with both internal teams and external customers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with aerospace certification processes (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and quality management systems.
- Familiarity with advanced CNC machines and automation in aerospace machining.
