Our client is a well established CNC precision machining and fabrication business located in Fort Wayne. The business is being primed for explosive growth and to support this growth we are seeking a passionate and driven Cost Estimator.

The Cost Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for custom machining, fabrication, and millwright projects. This includes interpreting blueprints, estimating labor and material costs, preparing customer quotes, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful completion of projects. Experience in machine shops and blueprint reading is required, and familiarity with military specifications is a plus.

Responsibilities
    • Analyze blueprints, drawings, and related documents to determine material, labor, and equipment costs for accurate estimates.
    • Develop detailed cost estimates for customer RFQs, considering machining processes, fabrication, materials, and labor.
    • Build consensus at internal meetings to achieve the most efficient approach for each project.
    • Work with the sales team to create efficient pricing strategies.
    • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure accurate pricing and ensure all estimates are complete.
    • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to review and refine estimates based on job requirements and customer needs.
    • Review completed projects to compare actual costs against estimates and identify areas for improvement.
    • Assist production manager with material procurement and maintain strong relationships with outsourced manufacturing partners.
    • Provide continuous support to projects, addressing change orders, timeline adjustments, and project management concerns.


Qualifications:
    • 5-7 years of machining experience
    • 2-4 years of cost estimating experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
    • Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication processes, and blueprint reading.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, cost estimation tools (hardware and software), and ERP systems including Pro Shop and JobBoss.
    • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
    • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
