Position: Regular / Full Time / Day Shift & Night Shift Available (Training on Day Shift)

Job Purpose

The CNC/PC Based Operators are responsible for operating CNC/PC machines to cut and produce the plates, angles, and beams for required jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Display a commitment to Waiward's incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Perform pre-use inspections on machine before using.
  • Trouble shoot problems with CNC/PC based machine being operated.
  • Mark pieces appropriately and stack accordingly with the use of overhead crane.
  • Request material for machine as needed.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork (maintenance book filled out and accurate heat numbers).
  • Run CNC/PC based machine assigned.
  • Complete housekeeping tasks.
  • Attend daily toolbox meetings.
  • Follow work schedules.
  • Complete tasks with minimal NCR's.
  • Properly and consistently follow and document established procedures.
  • Read, understand and comply with Waiward's safety policy, safe work practices, procedures and rules.
  • Ensure wearing appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma required.
  • Experience within a steel industry is considered an asset.
  • Previous skill with using a steel cutting saw is also considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of reading blue prints both in metric and imperial.
  • Knowledge of computer based software such as Peddimat.
  • Knowledge of programming beams, channels, HSS, and angles.
  • Ability to compare drawings with CamData to ensure work is correct.
  • Team player, friendly and have a professional attitude.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills that are complemented by effective interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Basic and Advanced Rigging Course an asset.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training an asset.
  • FLHA Training an asset;
  • Overhead Crane Operator required (internally delivered).
  • WHMIS

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in a fabrication shop with moderate noise.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
