Position Summary

Murphy Machine Products (MMP), a CMT company, is seeking a CNC Swiss Setup Technician for our Wood Dale, IL location. The CNC Swiss Setup Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and accurate production of precision parts. This position requires a strong understanding of CNC Swiss machines, a commitment to quality, and exceptional troubleshooting skills. The primary responsibility is to set up and operate CNC Swiss machines to produce high-quality parts that meet or exceed customer specifications. *This position works a schedule of Monday thru Thursday from 6:00am-4:30pm. The pay range for this role is between $26.00-$32.00/hr. depending on experience*

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accurately set up CNC Swiss machines based on engineering drawings, work instructions, and other relevant documentation.
  • Load and unload workpieces, tools, and fixtures efficiently.
  • Adjust machine settings, including spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, to optimize production efficiency and part quality.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of parts throughout the production process to ensure conformance to quality standards.
  • Utilize measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, optical comparators, GO/ NO-GO gaging) to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Identify and address quality issues promptly to prevent defects and rework.
  • Diagnose and resolve machine malfunctions, tool wear, and process-related problems.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques and analytical skills to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve process efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance part quality.
  • Suggest modifications to tooling, fixtures, or programming to optimize production.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed production records, including machine setup sheets, inspection reports, and quality data.
  • Follow established procedures and documentation standards.

Experience, Qualifications, and Skills
  • Proven experience in CNC Swiss machine setup and operation.
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming and machine controls.
  • Proficiency in using measuring instruments and quality control techniques.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to program CNC Swiss machines using CAM software (Park Maker).
  • Able to operate a manual CMM.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
